Building awareness of a trauma informed approach to supporting people with disability with a bespoke animation series
Maitree worked with National Disability Services (NDS) to produce a series of five animations to support workers and providers build greater awareness of trauma informed approaches to supporting people with disability.
Trauma Informed Support is an evidence based, therapeutic approach, which recognises signs and symptoms of trauma, enables pathways for recovery and actively seeks to avoid re-traumatisation.
The animations covered broad and accessible topics including What is Trauma?, What is Trauma Informed Support?, A Trauma informed Approach to Positive Behaviour Support, How can Organisations Support a Trauma Informed Approach? and Building Networks of Support and Recognising Vicarious Trauma.
Outcomes
- The translation of research on trauma and trauma informed support into accessible, gentle animation shorts for support workers and the broader community.
- Bespoke illustrations by our collaborator Jess Mountfield helping to visualise complex topics around trauma.
- Voice over by Kate Hood, disability advocate and performer.
