Collaboration with Yum Cha Arts
A cross cultural collaboration in XR theatre exploring connection in digital realities
Maitree worked with a collective of Malaysian and Australian artists and producer Fiona Carter of Yum Cha Arts, to create the virtual reality (VR) element of this exciting new mixed reality, multi-artform production.
Scheduled to be presented in July 2023 simultaneously in Darwin and Penang, Cloudlines employs virtual reality, live performance and live streaming to transform the performance space.

- Beautiful virtual reality environments inspired by the designs of artists Kris Bird and Stephanie Martin.
- An interactive multiplayer game environment linking players and audiences in two different sites.

Cloudlines explores themes of connection, belonging and identity in our online world and whether it is possible to find real connection in our digital realities. In the VR element, audiences journey through The Cloud –a virtual reality world described as a "vortex of data and reverie threatening to consume all who enter."
Cloudlines is produced by Yum Cha Arts and its development has been supported by the Australia Council for the Arts, NT Government, NT Regional Arts Fund and Browns Mart Theatre.
