Brown’s Mart Performing Arts, Darwin
An augmented reality mobile app for visitors to explore the archives and hear the stories of one of Darwin's most iconic National Heritage sites
We worked with the Brown's Mart creative team and local artists to create an augmented reality archival exhibition and audio tour for Brown's Mart theatre in Darwin, a national heritage site.
In 2022 Brown’s Mart celebrated 50 years as an arts organisation and the team wanted to celebrate this milestone by creating an app allowing visitors to explore the history of the site – dating back tens of thousands of years as a home for Larrakia people, to the time the building went up in the 1880’s, and more recently as a hub for the arts in the Darwin CBD.
Outcomes
- An easy to navigate and beautifully designed mobile app with integrated Augmented Reality (AR) functions for visitors to access the AR Archival Exhibition.
- Innovative augmented reality 'digital plinths' that can be used to complement the historical site with historical information without impacting on the original building.
- Podcast style audio stories compiled of interviews with many local artists and community members connected with the site.
- Narrated by Shellie Morris, a well known and respected local artist
- An augmented reality artwork by Aboriginal artist Denise Quall as a part of the Welcome to Country address.
